Modular Synthesizer
The Power of Modular Synthesizer
The synthesizer that is built from separate independent modules which are interconnected via patch cables create the modular system, known as “Eurorack”. It’s notable that the more mingled patch cables become the more unique sound or musical loop ends up being generated.
Eurorack Modular System
Sound designers at Pretty Samples, take two distinct approaches in utilizing modular synthesizers.
Firstly, we create independent one-shot samples, short sound patches like drum hits and kicks as well as immediate sound FX, like beat drops and FX transitions. For example when creating a sound of wind blowing or waves hitting the shore, we manage to replicate a full scene while adding extra layers of atmospheric granular background textures that further enhance the reality of visual SFX scenery. This is possible thanks to true analog sound generated by these modular machines, where every single sound waveform can be manipulated endlessly. These samples, synth sounds, risers and drops can be found throughout our sound library present in various sound packs as separate files, all recorded in highest lossless quality in WAV format. Please refer to The Catalyst and SFX Libraries where we further expand on our artistic ideology behind the process of sound engineering.
Secondly, these interlinked modular systems are being used to make: musical loops, generative beats, chord progressions and overall, more rhythmic project files. For this, we use on-board sequencers with external instruments. At times, we input loops from instruments like electronic guitars and trumpets, then modify them beyond recognition which yields extraordinary results. These as well as previous projects come to existence thanks to unison of music composers with electronic modular instruments. We can proudly state that these progressive sound files are never-heard before.
The sound packs engineered by Pretty Samples, with individual loops and one-shots can act as modular synthesizer digitally, where cross referencing between genres can be fruitful for modern electronic sound wizards and beat producers alike. For example one can mix a drum kit from Hip Hop Waves sound pack with ambient loop from Ambient Pulses and add background textures as well as sound FX from Experimental Resonance, for a truly unique composition.
